Training on Qualitative Research Methods: Principles to Practices

Training on Qualitative Research Methods: Principles to Practices

2024-05-10

In the realm of research, qualitative methodologies stand as invaluable tools for comprehending the complexities of human experiences and social phenomena. Unlike quantitative research, which relies on numerical data and statistical analysis, qualitative research delves into the nuances of human thought, emotion, and behavior, offering rich insights into the "how" and "why" behind our actions and perceptions.

Qualitative research stands as an indispensable tool for understanding the complexities of human experiences and social phenomena. Its ability to capture the nuances of meaning, context, and diversity makes it a powerful instrument for informing practice, policymaking, and social change. As we strive to address the challenges of the 21st century, qualitative research  plays a vital role in deepening our understanding of the human condition and shaping a more just and equitable world. Most of the university graduates even faculty have theoretical knowledge on qualitative research methods however they may not have in-depth skill on how to analyze qualitative data.

A five-day in-person mode training program was conducted at CERID training hall on 6th to 10th May 2024. Presentation, exercise, experience sharing, mock session, group work and presentation, question and answer, discussion were the methods of the training program. Different 5 to 6 groups were from the participants for group discussion and presentation as well.

The five-day training program was inaugurated on 6th May. The opening session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Surendra Giri, Executive Director, CERID. Prof. Dr. Khadga KC inaugurate the training session as chief guest speech.

University graduates; faculty members; PhD and MPhil scholar; and independent researchers were the participants of the program. However, priority was given to the university faculty members. A training call notice was published in the CERID website. The participants were selected as 'first come first serve' basis. However, some number was allocated and reserved for the participants from remote areas and faculty members of the university outside Kathmandu valley.
